  7. IMPORTANT SHAREVISION PRODUCT 
  8. INFORMATION 
  9.  
  10. ò ShareVision v1.4 should be installed on Win 3.1 systems.  ShareVision 2.0 
  11. is for Win 95 systems.
  12.  
  13. ò ShareVision v2.0 is currently a 16 bit application and will not take
  14. advatange of some Win 95 32 bit features such as long filenames and
  15. multitasking.  ShareVision v3.0 will be a full 32 bit application 
  16. supporting all the Win 95 features.
  17.  
  18. ò Remote Software Update: 
  19. ShareVision v1.4 may not be able to upgrade earlier versions 
  20. of ShareVision.  ShareVision 2.0 cannot upgrade any of the previous 
  21. Windows 3.1 versions.  At the time of connection, software version 
  22. information is exchanged between the two ShareVision systems.  If 
  23. the remote party has an older version, you will be presented with 
  24. the Remote Update dialog, allowing you to update the remote user 
  25. to the current software version.  If you choose not to update and 
  26. continue with the current connection, you may later invoke the 
  27. Remote Update feature from the main ShareVision menu.  Any 
  28. registered user may obtain the 1.4 and 2.0 installation diskettes by calling 
  29. the nearest Creative Customer Support Center :  North America 1-
  30. 800-998-1000; Singapore (Tel) +65 773-0233, (Fax) +65 773-
  31. 0353; and Europe (Ireland) (353) 1-820-7555.

  33. ò Windows Language Versions: 
  34. Windows language versions supported in the v1.4 and 2.0 release: English.

  36. GENERAL PRODUCT TIPS 
  37. ò When using ShareVision internationally, you will attain optimal 
  38. connection rates if the ShareVision modem answers the call for an 
  39. immediate connection (rather than answering with a normal 
  40. telephone and connecting with ShareVision later).  The reason for 
  41. this is that in normal voice telephone calls, an ADPCM channel 
  42. (compression) is usually assigned by the  network.  A clear channel 
  43. is provided only if the modem answer tone is detected for a digital 
  44. connection. The set up is called "DCME/DCMS interaction".  If a 
  45. ShareVision user starts the video conferencing session with an 
  46. analog (normal telephone) connection first, and then switches to a 
  47. digital (ShareVision) connection, he/she will be forced to a lower 
  48. data rate due to this constraint.  A difference of 4.8kbps is likely. 
  49. This situation is less critical for domestic US calls where a clear 
  50. channel is assigned most of the time. 
  51.  
  52. ò If you notice that the video is breaking up or that the audio is 
  53. choppy, you are probably dropping packets of data due to poor 
  54. telephone line quality.  If this is the case, hang up and reconnect at 
  55. the same baud rate.  If you consistently have problems with line 
  56. quality connect at a lower baud rate.  Note that the default 
  57. connection rate after installing ShareVision is 24kbps.  For some 
  58. users this connection rate will be unattainable due to local telephone 
  59. line conditions. If this is the case, change your Modem Settings in 
  60. the Dialer to a lower baud rate.  Refer to the manual for more 
  61. information on changing the connect rate in the modem settings 
  62. dialog.  As you gain experience with using ShareVision you will get 
  63. a feel for your connection capabilities as well as the capabilities of 
  64. the parties you are calling. 
  65.  
  66. ò Audio always has the bandwidth that it needs (4.8kbps) to 
  67. transmit.  However, video dynamically adjusts depending upon how 
  68. much talking and data sharing you are doing.  It is normal for video 
  69. to slow down, or to temporarily stop while sharing lots of data--as 
  70. in the case of a transferring a file or initially sharing an application. 
  71.  
  72. ò If the modem activity dialog is reporting that the average frame 
  73. rate is consistently below five frames per second (at 28.8kbps 
  74. connect rate), your PC may be too slow for the current core video 
  75. capture size.  Self video preferences has a menu item 'Video Core 
  76. Size' that allows you to dynamically change the core capture size, 
  77. even while connected.  The smaller the core capture size, the less 
  78. compute your PC has to perform. Also, since the incoming video 
  79. stream is decoded on your PCÆs processor, you will want the 
  80. remote party to reduce their core capture size as well.

  83. ò To facilitate faster whiteboard transfers, we recommend turning 
  84. off DOS SHARE.EXE in the AUTOEXEC.BAT. 
  85.  
  86. ò When using ShareVision, several drivers are loaded into low 
  87. memory.  Additional drivers will be loaded into low memory if you 
  88. are using scanner input devices or using the application sharing 
  89. feature of ShareVision. Depending upon the constraints of your PC, 
  90. you may need to install a memory manager such as EMM386, 
  91. QEMM, or 386MAX.  Where possible, these utilities will load 
  92. drivers into high memory to free up low memory. 
  93.  
  94. ò When running ShareVision software, we recommend that virtual 
  95. memory be turned on with Swapfile Settings of 19+MB and 
  96. Permanent. 
  97.  
  98. ò If for some reason your software becomes corrupted or otherwise 
  99. unusable, run the ShareVision Uninstall application to remove all 
  100. files and undo all modifications to system files. Afterward, reinstall 
  101. from the ShareVision installation diskettes.

  103.  
  104. TECHNICAL NOTES 
  105. ò (*) There is a compatibility issue between some VGA boards and 
  106. Video For Windows displaying in 16-bit DIB format.  On these 
  107. VGA cards, the video will appear to have a mismatched 
  108. (psychedelic) palette.  If you experience this display problem, you 
  109. can correct the problem by changing from 16 bit to 24 bit DIB in 
  110. the Self Video preferences.  Changing to 24 bit DIB will have a 
  111. marginal effect of slowing down video.

  113.  
  114. ò The video display driver for the Tseng Labs ET4000/W32 at 
  115. 640x480x8-bit will cause a crash with Video For Windows when 
  116. you run the ShareVision software (640x480x8-bit is the default 
  117. resolution for the Compaq Prolinea systems).  The Tseng driver will 
  118. not crash at other resolutions or depths (i.e., 
  119. 640x480x16-bit). 
  120.  
  121. ò If you have Sound Blaster installed in your PC, please note the 
  122. following.  Because of a conflict between MicrosoftÆs 
  123. MSACM.DRV (which is installed with Video For Windows) and 
  124. Sound Blaster software, you may experience rare General 
  125. Protection Faults (GPFs) in module USER.EXE. In this case 
  126. contact Creative technical support for a software upgrade of the 
  127. CSPMAN.DLL.  Or, you can avoid this problem by editing your 
  128. SYSTEM.INI file.  Add semicolons to comment out the following 
  129. two lines: 
  130. ;MSACM.msadpcm=msadpcm.acm 
  131. ;MSACM.imaadpcm=imaadpcm.acm 
  132.  
  133. ò When application sharing, there may be times that colors and fonts 
  134. at the host side are not available at the guest side.  In these cases, 
  135. the colors and fonts are matched as closely as possible. 
  136.  
  137. ò When application sharing, regions of a window at the host that are 
  138. obscured by another window or dialog will not be updated at the 
  139. guest side. 
  140.  
  141. ò When application sharing, in version 2.0 of ShareVision, if the 
  142. host side is printing a document from any Windows'95 application, the 
  143. printer will output blank pages.
  144.
